How to import Poliigon PBR Textures into Substance Painter

  1. Go to File > Import Resources

  2. In the pop-up, select ‘Add Resources’

  3. Select the desired maps in the unzipped material folder you downloaded from Poliigon

  4. Click on the ‘Undefined’ text next to each map, and select the correct asset type (texture)

  5. To easily locate your imported files, in the ‘Asset’ window

    1. Select ‘Texture’ type

    2. Change ‘All Libraries’ drop down to ‘Project’

How to import Poliigon Models into Substance Painter

To import models into Substance Painter, make sure you’re first selecting .fbx as your download format from Poliigon.

  1. Go to File > New

  2. In the New Project window, click the ‘Select’ button next to ‘File’ and find the .fbx file you downloaded from Poliigon

  3. Ensure ‘Normal Map Format’ is set to OpenGL if you wish to match Poliigon’s conventions, or invert in your layer stack to match your destination software

  4. Select any other relevant settings for your particular project

  5. If you wish to import Poliigon’s materials for the model, follow the steps in the section above

How to import Poliigon HDRIs into Substance Painter

  1. Go to File > Import Resources

  2. In the pop-up, select ‘Add Resources’

  3. Select the desired HDRI in the unzipped folder you downloaded from Poliigon

  4. Click on the ‘Undefined’ text next to each map, and select the correct asset type (environment)

  5. Click on ‘Display Settings’

  6. Click on the current HDRI in the ‘Environment Slot’, then select your imported HDRI from the list
