How to import Poliigon PBR Textures into Twinmotion
To import materials into Twinmotion, Select the “Materials” icon at the bottom of the window in the default layout. This will display all materials currently in your scene.
Select the type of material you want to add by clicking the 3 dots next to the plus sign in the tray. For most Poliigon materials, the “Standard” material type should be sufficient. Clicking on the material type will add a new blank material to the scene. Subsequent materials can be added simply by pressing the plus sign.
Clicking on the blank material will bring up the material properties on the right side of the window
To add the Poliigon maps to the material, click on “details” for each section, to expand the drop down, then click on the empty box labeled “texture”. Navigate to the downloaded unzipped texture, and select the corresponding map file. Repeat for each map
For the roughness map, Twinmotion may set the roughness to 100% by default. In order to use the imported map unchanged, it must be set at 50%
For the normal map, you’ll need to tick the “invert” check-box to invert the green channel of the normal map
To add the displacement map, first tick the “parallax” check-box under the normal map section
For materials with additional maps, you may need to select a different base material type. For example the “Foliage” material contains an input for translucency
How to import Poliigon Models into Twinmotion
To import models into Twinmotion, make sure you’re first selecting .fbx as your download format from Poliigon.
To import your Poliigon model, select the “Import” icon at the bottom of the window in the default layout. This will open a pop-up where you can select your import method. the default “Geometry” option is correct. Select “Open” and navigate to your unzipped Poliigon download and select the .fbx file.
After selecting the file you’ll be presented with a few more import options. You shouldn’t need to adjust any of these options unless it’s applicable for you and your scene.
The model will be placed at the scene origin point by default.
the model import will also have imported a blank materal into the scene, you can add the model’s texture by following the steps in the previous section
How to import Poliigon HDRIs into Twinmotion
To import HDRIs into Twinmotion, ensure the “Scene” outline is visible in the right section of the window.
Select “Ambiance” from the scene list
In the Ambiance sub-options, select “Env” and then “HDRI”
For HDRI type, select “Skydome”
Hover your mouse over the image below, and select the three dots to open a pop-up, then select “Open” and navigate to your unzipped HDRI download from Poliigon
