How to import Poliigon Models into Twinmotion
To import models into Twinmotion, first choose .fbx as your download format from Poliigon.
To import your Poliigon model, select the “Import” icon at the bottom of the window in the default layout.
This will open a pop-up where you can select your import method. The default “Geometry” option is correct. Select “Open” and navigate to your unzipped Poliigon download and select the .fbx file.
After selecting the file, you’ll be presented with a few more import options. You shouldn’t need to adjust any of these options unless they're applicable to you and your scene.
The model will be placed at the scene's origin point by default.
The model import will bring in a blank material. You can add the model’s texture by following the steps in the next section.
How to import Poliigon PBR Textures into Twinmotion
To import materials in Twinmotion, click the “Materials” icon at the bottom of the window. This will display all materials currently in your scene.
Select the type of material you want to add by clicking the 3 dots next to the plus sign in the tray. For most Poliigon materials, the “Standard” material type should be sufficient. Clicking on the material type will add a new blank material to the scene. Subsequent materials can be added simply by pressing the plus sign.
Clicking on the blank material will bring up the material properties on the right side of the window.
To add the Poliigon maps to your material, click “details” to expand each section. Click the empty box that says "texture." Then, find the unzipped texture you downloaded and choose the correct map file. Repeat for each map.
For the roughness map, Twinmotion may set the roughness to 100% by default. In order to use the imported map unchanged, it must be set to 50%.
For the normal map, you’ll need to tick the “invert” checkbox to invert the green channel of the normal map.
To add the displacement map, first check the “parallax” box in the normal map section. Then, click the blank image next to the height map.
For materials with additional maps, you may need to select a different base material type. For example, the “Foliage” material contains an input for translucency.
