How to import Poliigon PBR Textures into Revit

  1. Select the ‘Manage’ tab.

  2. Select ‘Materials’

  3. At the bottom of the window, click on the icon of the sphere with the plus sign to create a new material.

  4. To access Revit 2019+’s updated PBR material settings, the created material must first be replaced with an updated material.

    1. Select the ‘Appearance’ tab.

    2. Click on the button with the swapping icon near the right edge of the window.

    3. Choose a material without a yellow warning symbol if you don’t care about physical or thermal properties. If you do, pick one that looks like the Poliigon material you want to replicate.

    4. Click on the arrows icon on the right side to swap the new material in. You should see that the ‘Generic’ section in the ‘Appearance’ tab is now replaced with some new options.

  5. Depending on your selected texture type, you might see the material images in their fields. For some metals, though, you may only see color inputs.

    1. If there are images, click the image field. This will open an explorer window. Then, find the downloaded Poliigon material. Finally, select the map you need: Color, Roughness, or Normal Map.

      1. For the normal map, upload it into the bump slot. Click on the image to open the settings window. Then, go to the ‘Advanced’ section and change the data type from ‘Height’ to 'Normal.'

    2. If images are not present, click on the arrow to the right of the color field and select 'Image.'

  6. For some material types, additional maps can be added, such as a mask map for cutouts or a subsurface map for translucency.

Materials can also be added via 3rd party software/renderers such as:
