Installation and Updating (SketchUp 2025+):

You can install the extension from SketchUp's Extension warehouse directly.

Support for SketchUp 2021-2024

The latest extension does not currently support SketchUp 2021-2024. You can instead install our legacy extension, which works by selecting already local content to manually import.

Login and setup

The first time you use the extension, you will need to sign in with a Poliigon account. If you don't already have one, you can sign up onthe website for free.

The extension will prompt you to open a page on the Poliigon website. If you are already signed in there, or once you confirm a sign in and it tells you to return back to the 3D software, you will then be prompted to select your library folder.

Your library folder is where your assets will be downloaded to and imported from.

Browsing

You can browse the entire Poliigon library by drilling into the multiple levels of different categories, or by entering a search term to search across all assets. With an optimized infinite scrolling mechanism, you can easily breeze the thousands of available assets.

Unlimited Plans

Users on an unlimited plan will see an unlimited icon at the top right of their extension. As an unlimited user, you have access to download any asset, subject to the fair use policy. Any assets you previously purchased before your unlimited plan will additionally be marked with an "Owned" badge.

Purchase and download

With a Pro plan, you can acquire up to a certain number of assets each month. Your current asset balance is displayed at the top right of the extension window, and reduces by one each time you acquire a new asset by starting an import.

You can identify assets you don't yet owned by the "Premium" label. Clicking on import will trigger both a purchase and immediate download of the asset. After an asset has been purchased, it will be labeled as "owned" and will not use any of your asset balance for future downloads and imports.

Import Textures

Press the import button on any texture to download it (if not already local) and configure as a new SketchUp material. This will activate the Paint Bucket tool, where you can apply the material to as many faces as you like.

The material will be configured with all the correct settings for Poliigon materials, such as the correct value assignments for PBR map influences and ensuring the usage of OpenGL normal maps.

Materials will also be auto configured for PBR rendering in VRay, if VRay has already been active or at the moment that VRay is activated in the future. The extension will connect additional maps and settings, such as transmission and emission maps as well as support for the specular workflow, to get the full quality of Poliigon textures during rendering. Native face rendering mode does not support certain maps such as Transmission, Emission, and Subsurface Scattering.

You can also download and import different resolutions of Textures using the dropdown. After changing the resolution, click the import button to download and import this variant.

Import Models

When you import a model in SketchUp, you will see a low-density proxy mesh with low resolution textures. These proxy meshes ensure SketchUp remains responsive even in heavier scenes. While PBR maps are still applied to these proxy meshes, the limited geometry will mean the assets do not look as high quality as represented in the thumbnail or on the website.

To get the full quality of these meshes, you will need to have access to V-Ray. During rendering with V-Ray, the proxy meshes are swapped with higher quality vrmeshes and configured with full quality materials, including maps like subsurface scattering or transmission which the native photoreal face rendering mode does not support.

Import HDRIs

Press import next to any HDRI to download and import. This will set it up as the active environment in SketchUp.

You can rotate and adjust the brightness of the HDRI by using the native Environments panel. To get the most out of the photoreal rendering mode, you should also tick the box to activate the sunlamp and then manually adjust the sun position to match the brightest spot on the HDRI. This will enable sun directionality and shadow calculation.

If you have V-Ray active at the time of importing your HDRI, it will also configure the V-Ray environment map and orientation. If you first enable V-Ray at a later time, you can just import the HDRI again. Be aware, you may need to re-configure the sun location again.
