An Unreal Engine 5 tutorial on setting up Poliigon materials using MaterialX

Updated over 3 months ago

As of earlier this year, Poliigon materials now ship with MaterialX support.

Epic Games supports MaterialX in Unreal Engine 5.1 and beyond, allowing the import of MaterialX documents based on the Standard Surface shading model.

As of Unreal Engine 5.3, MaterialX content may additionally be referenced in USD workflows within Unreal.

For users wanting to set up Poliigon materials in Unreal 5.1+, importing .mtlx files should work out of the box, however please note that [displacementshader] must be disabled in the import settings.
